Small Business Saturday with Sierra Winter Jewelry

kansas city, free gift, free, discount, handmade, small business saturday, shop local, kcmo, decor, design, art, artist, jewelry,

If we’re being honest, Black Friday has never appealed to us. The crowds alone are enough for us to want to stay home. But Small Business Saturday is a different story, something we have been celebrating since 2009 and we hope you will come see us this Small Business Saturday, the 26th of November! This is going to be our best SBS ever and here is why:

1: Local jewelry designer, Sierra Winter is going to be at the shop from 12-5 selling her beautiful jewelry AND she is offering 20% off two select pieces, only for those that visit us that day. She tells us it is a rare occasion that she offers discounts like this, so do not miss! She has also just launched a brand new collection, Winter Rose, and we cannot wait to see it in person.

2: Coveted Home will be offering 20% off our brand new signature candle scents, Santal Noir and Grapefruit Acai–both are so yummy!

3: Coveted Home will be offering a free gift with purchase on purchases over $75. We will be announcing the details of the gift soon, but trust us, you want one!

So dearest Coveteurs, if these deals aren’t enticing enough for you, simply swing by and share a drink with us (we’ll be serving up a delicious cocktail that is totally appropriate for day drinking on a Saturday;) because we would love to see your beautiful faces!

Styled at Home

Every once in a while I like to take home some Coveted Home inventory and style it in my house. Its fun for me and I hope it helps provide you inspiration for your own home. Over the Memorial Day holiday weekend I cleaned, styled and shot pictures and had a little company over! I’m including an easy recipe that we cooked on the grill.

Jaclyn Joslin living room

If you happened to see the last style post I did at my home you may notice a change in my DwellStudio Silverado sofa. While I love a leather sofa, Simone and I never quite found it cozy for snuggling. I was always laying down blankets to sit on top of (Simone always preferred sitting on top of a blanket as well) so I finally decided to just have the seat cushion recovered in a washable cotton. I also had my upholsterer add feathers, making it more like a down pillow top mattress and it is unbelievably comfortable.

Navarro pillow

I’ve loved the texture and pattern of the smaller accent pillow and had a sneaking suspicion it would fit in perfectly in my living room. I can’t believe there’s still one of the larger animal print pillows left in the shop–this is a gorgeous $260 pillow on sale for $100! Snatch that up, someone please!

Susan Connor Prism throw

I made some big changes to my coffee table! Previously I had a round marble tray in the middle with a grouping of items. I’d been craving to get out some of my design books that were tucked away so decided to ditch the tray, put out some favorite books and add a few items on top. The little vase that the plant is in is vintage from Coveted Home Flea, the lovely handmade bowl is by Isabel Halley and can be found here. I also added the Susan Connor Prism throw to my sofa and I love the pop of indigo it adds.

bar essentials

A fully stocked bar can make quite the impression. We have so many wonderful bar accessories in the shop right now, stay tuned as they will be part of our June promotion! These items are staples at my bar: Coveted Home signature candle, coasters, bottle opener, wine bottle stopper, napkins, bowl (similar). I’ve decided that our Rosa Tote is a must have and we’ve marked it down to 30% off for this post! I’ve used it for groceries, lugging around work samples, my laptop, travel and although I haven’t used it for these purposes, I could see it being used for a workout tote, beach tote or baby bag.

corn on cobb

Thai street corn on the cobb:

6 ears of corn

1/2 cup coconut milk, full fat

2 tbs. raw sugar

1 tsp ea. cinnamon & cayenne pepper

1/2 tsp. ginger powder

dash of salt

Combine ingredients (except corn) and simmer on stove for 5 minutes.

Strip the husk back but don’t pull it off, and use 2 of the husk blades to tie back the rest and form a handle.

Baste the ears well and place on grill, continue to baste while grilling for 12-15 minutes or blackened.

This was a delicious new way to prepare corn that no one at our party had tried before but everyone loved!

Coveted Home + KC Pet Project

We LOVE animals! That is why we’re thrilled to announce that we will be donating 10% of the proceeds from our signature candle line to KC Pet Project. KC Pet Project (KCPP) is an awesome local nonprofit organization! KCPP’s mission is “to end the killing of healthy and treatable pets in Kansas City, Missouri by using the most progressive and lifesaving programs and promoting effective animal control policies” (kcpetproject.org). They maintain a no-kill animal shelter for Kansas City, Mo. and find new families for homeless pets. Yay!

Are you thinking about getting a pet? Rescue dogs (and cats) rule! KCPP has photos of their adorable animals that are waiting to be adopted on their website.

Client Work: Master Bedroom

This bedroom project was very special to me as it belongs to one of our oldest standing clients to date. They originally enlisted our help back in 2010 for their living room. My talented sister who has impeccable taste helped them (she has sadly since moved to Portland, Oregon). Then in 2011 they worked on their formal living room. Both turned out beautifully.

This year they did a major renovation on their home, having outgrown it with the additions to their family over the years. The two living rooms done previously stayed the same but the master bedroom amongst other areas, got bigger and reconfigured. While they were confident on what they wanted in the kitchen and most of the rest of the house they felt stumped on their bedroom. I was honored they would ask me to come up with the design. It turned out so lovely and I think it fits them and their house perfectly: sophisticated, classy, a bit restrained, neo-traditional with some modern touches to give it variety.
