We are Coveted Home
The Coveted Home team is a small group of enthusiastic individuals, who possess an array of expertise and talents and share a common goal. Our goal is to help people better design their lives. We do this by providing high-quality, unique furniture and home accessories and outstanding service to our customers and clients. Kansas City has not always been on the forefront of the design world. However, it is steadily growing a reputation for being a fashionable, innovative, and creative hot spot. We’re excited to be on the front line of the design revolution that is happening in this city.
Our clientele is intelligent and discerning. They are not satisfied with the generic products or impersonal service that they find at chain stores. Our customers want to shop where they can find something new and original. They want to talk to real, knowledgeable people who care about them and the community. Without trying to sound too self-congratulatory, we are proud of who we are, what we do, and the products that we carry! Without further ado, these are the people who make Coveted Home, Coveted Home:
Jaclyn’s style: modern – organic – comfortable
“Jaclyn is one of the most original and stylish women I know. Her incessant hunger for the new and the intriguing inspires me every day. Her spaces are the embodiment of comfortable, tasteful, livable design. Working for her is the best hands-on education I could ask for.” – Addison
Jaclyn is the heart and soul of Coveted home. It’s fascinating to watch her seamlessly handle the ins-and-outs of owning a successful retail and interior design business. She is continuously seeking out new products and methods in order to offer the best goods and services to our clientele. She also has an ability to find and foster her team members’ talents. Jaclyn became interested in interior design while working towards a degree in the Humanities. She had a natural aptitude for design, and eventually went back to earn an associates degree in interior design. When she’s not at work (or working from home), Jaclyn can be found “laying low” at home with Simone and her boyfriend Nick, going on walks or hikes, and riding her bike. She also enjoys hanging out with family and friends and traveling.
“I love creating solutions for people’s design problems. One of my favorite things to hear is “I love that idea, I would have never thought of that.” I know I’ve done something good when a client makes a comment along those lines. I also love seeing clients rooms transformed, the before and after thing is pretty awesome. ” – Jaclyn

Addison Ford // Sales Associate + Stylist
Addison’s style: warm – sculptural – austere
“Addison has an uncanny knack for uncovering the most obscure and interesting design artifacts and collectibles. His passion for all things design related is admirable and contagious!” – Jaclyn
Addison was exposed to design and collecting early; he attended his first auction at six weeks old! He says, “design piqued my interest as a way of integrating the disparate eras and contexts I adore, and objects I’ve collected, into a cohesive and beautiful finished space”. We are all in awe of the breadth of knowledge that Addison possesses in regards to all things design and especially vintage design. He gets excited about helping customers select the perfect pieces for their homes. When he’s not at Coveted Home, Addison can be found antiquing, out and about with friends, or relaxing at home with his partner Nicholas and their Russian Blue cats.
“The best part of my job is helping to give our clients and customers the most inspiring, unexpected and beautiful place to shop for their homes in Kansas City. Another favorite part is the non-stop learning process that happens when any group of creative and talented people work together for a common cause. A very real sense of family, not just within the team, but with our customers and clients, means very much to me.” – Addison

Rachel Kauffman // Sales Associate + Social Media Specialist
Rachel’s style: juxtaposed – relaxed – Collected
“I so admire Rachel’s ability to troubleshoot situations. She doesn’t give up and is quick to learn how to remedy any issue. And her eye for vintage is fantastic!” – Melanie
Rachel joined the Coveted Home crew shortly after our move to the Plaza. Like many of her co-workers, her love of interior design was sparked by her interest in all things vintage. Her educational background is in sociology and psychology, which she finds useful in her day-to-day work. “Interior design is a multidisciplinary field; it combines art and design, ergonomics, psychology, and history. It’s important to understand the aesthetic intention as well as a room’s purpose and the people who are going to be using it”. Rachel usually spends her free time hanging out with her husband, son, and pets. She can also be found thrifting or at home working on her mid-century ranch.
“When I’m at Coveted Home, I’m surrounded by good people and beautifully curated objects; honestly, it doesn’t even feel like work. I get to help others improve their quality of life through good design and learn something new every day.” – Rachel

Simone // Shop Dog / Greeter
“Simone is such a character! She charms customers and passersby alike with her adorable face and sweet disposition.” – Rachel
Simone is a Brussels Griffon and has been with Coveted Home for almost eight years! She has grown up in the store and loves the shop dog lifestyle. She is a total extrovert and enjoys meeting new people and other dogs and getting lots of attention. She also enjoys sunbathing and going for walks.
“I am so honored that each of these talented and beautiful people have chosen to be a part of the CH team! “ – Jaclyn
We talk to so many people that pass through the store and tell us they are 75-80% satisfied with their house but just can’t seem to finish it. The last bits of pulling together a room with the right accessories and art can be difficult. Thats why we are so excited about our new service, in home styling sessions! This is perfect for those that have the majority of items in a room but it still doesn’t feel quite right or finished. Give us a couple of hours and we will transform your unfinished room. Here are a few before/after pictures from our latest styling session.
Before: this client really had some amazing pieces to start with! Lots of collectible mid century, but the room just didn’t feel pulled together–all of the accessories were a little haphazard and lackluster.
After: By staying within a restrained color palate, adding well made pillows and some vintage accessories (plus one big plant!) the space is now cohesive and well thought out.
Before: the console was definitely an after thought with a few random accessories and a lamp that was too small.
After: We centered the console on the wall, hung the art, added better proportioned lamps and a few vintage and handmade accessories that fit our color palate and vibe.
Before: the dining room felt unfinished and a bit bare.
After: we added a few simple accessories that fit our vibe–the handmade table runner and vintage pottery piece on the table.
After: the clients happen to have an amazing bar in another room so this bar cart is more for accessories and to look pretty. We added a plant and some vintage pottery as well as the African basket on the wall to help anchor the cart.
After: One of our vintage Turkish runners in the hall helps bridge the two spaces.

Happy Spring! The weather in Kansas City has been perfection these past few weeks and the door remains wide open here at the shop. You know what they say, the only constant is change and that couldn’t be more true for us! Location changes, employee changes and now a move towards more of a lifestyle store instead of a furniture store. Big box stores have really changed the retail landscape over these past few years and as a small business it has affected us in a big way. We are now adding as many “small batch” (meaning not produced in large quantities) lines that we can get our hands on, the more obscure the better. We are also focusing on our ever growing inventory of curated vintage and if you haven’t checked out our “flea” category be sure to get in here or shop it online here. It seems to be the only way to stand apart from the ubiquitous big box retailers and as a bonus we know we are supporting another small business. The offerings are still mainly home focused, but we are adding a few more fashion items such as more leather goods and jewelry.
The showroom floor has less furniture but more small goods.
We added new light fixtures from Worley’s Lighting above the counter and in the center of the shop, this is their Colony fixture in oxidized brass.
Everyone’s new favorite cozy corner.
More Apothecary, books & candles are being added to the line up.
We turned one of the back corner nooks into the kitchen & bar area and painted the wall black!
We added a bar! We now serve wine & coffee (we got an espresso machine!) and serve Meta Coffee. Wine & coffee is donation based, stop by anytime we’d love to have you!
We’ve got an amazing new art line in the store, Twyla. If you are looking for affordable contemporary art come see us! We’d love to help you explore the line and pick the right piece for your home. Twyla offers all kinds of services including mock ups of the art in your home.
A few of our new lifestyle geared pieces, perfect for gifts or to treat yourself. Shop online here or stop by and see us, we’d love to show you what’s new.
Welcome to the reveal of one of my favorite projects, referred to as Starting Fresh. After relocating to Kansas City (Prairie Village) from California with their two young children and purchasing a new construction home, these homeowners reached out to me for help with furnishing the interior. We were starting from scratch–they literally had no furniture or accessories that they wanted to use from their previous house, so this project was a complete blank slate–so fun! Having clients that trust in your vision is so nice and always creates the best results. It also helped that the builders, Koenig Building + Restoration, had done a beautiful job on the home and had chosen great materials for the build out.

We often hear people say that Thanksgiving is their favorite holiday. Something about the simple pleasure of gathering with friends and family over copious amount of food is so comforting. We had the pleasure of hosting our friends from Porter Teleo in the shop for a little photo shoot of their newly released table linens (just in time for Thanksgiving!), which are gorgeous and hand painted little pieces of art in themselves. We played around with styling some of our table top pieces with their linens and the result was quite lovely. We hope it provides you some inspiration for entertaining this holiday season.
Functional and beautiful serving pieces: brass servers, fruit bowl, napkins & runner. Add the ambiance with candle light–shop our amazing collection of new and vintage candlesticks here.

I just can’t help but do another before and after with this project. I love the satisfaction of going back to the before pictures after a project has been professionally photographed to see the transformation! This space had several challenges–you might be able to tell that while the room is rather large, right down the center there are 2 large columns that could not be moved. The columns split the room up and made furniture placement a challenge. The clients wanted a comfortable space where they could entertain and watch movies with their teenage daughter and two dogs. We had a moderate budget to work with, considering the size of the room and the amount of items it would need to feel complete.
At my first visit, the room was full of mismatched pieces that were either hand-me-downs or had been around since college days. The original layout didn’t quite flow which left the room feeling choppy and unorganized. This led to a lot of dead space which wasn’t being utilized. At that time I was completely overloaded with projects, so I reached out to my sister, Amanda Steiner, who happened to have just launched her own design business in Portland, Oregon and was looking for work. We worked together to create a space that was welcoming, comfortable, stylish with a bit of zen–the clients requested a spot for their daily meditating.
By reorientating the sofa and the television and creating a sitting area by the fireplace, where they can read and drink their morning coffee, we really opened the space up.
We styled the books in the shelves with the spine turned in to create a more cohesive, clean and minimalist feeling. The art above the fireplace is so amazing and we didn’t want anything to distract from it!
The meditation area is a little oasis.
The entry is no longer a blank space but an inviting area with personality and interest.
A true blend of high and low items from vintage Coveted Home flea finds, accessories from Target, furniture from West Elm, CB2 and splurges on Moroccan rugs and the beautiful brushstrokes lamp from Jana Bek, the house is an eclectic mix that hits all the right notes.

Vestige Home Pop-up Shop – August 16
We first learned about (and fell in love with) Vestige Home‘s handmade goods on Instagram. Vestige Home makes small-batch wooden kitchen tools and accessories. It’s owners, Nicole and Luck, are a brother and sister team from Philadelphia. We simply adore their handmade cutting boards and other wooden kitchen accessories. And we are thrilled to bring their beautifully crafted goods to Kansas City! Since they have family ties to KC, they’ve offered to visit with us and you on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. They’ll be talking about their products, how to create tablescapes, and dessert and drink pairing ideas. Local company, Ashleigh’s Bake Shop will also be joining us for the Vestige Home Pop-up Shop. She’ll be bringing delicious treats! It will be a fun and tasty evening… Don’t miss it!
