Natalie Prass: Auditory Aesthetics

As one of Rolling Stone’s “Ten New Artists You Need To Know” as well as one of Time Magazine’s “15 Artists To Watch in 2015″, Natalie Prass has definitely made an impression on the critics. And on the shop! Songs from her debut album have been sprinkled throughout our shop beats for months now. Her voice is haunting, sharp, and powerful. Yet there is an intimacy to her songs that have a quality similar to Joni Mitchell. The storytelling is spot on and totally relatable. And can we talk about this album cover?! Total bang envy. Aside from the killer hair, the album was an exciting springboard to create a room similar in color and style for our most recent Auditory Aesthetics installment. What do you think? Would Natalie approve of our interior interpretation? We sure hope so….

Chinoiserie: Curated

We love mixing and matching styles, finishes, and patterns; it keeps things interesting! Our goal is to help you design your home in a way that feels organic and natural rather than artificial – forced. Jaclyn’s portfolio and the Coveted Home shop are confirmation of our inclination to choose elements that work in harmony with one another rather than ones that mirror each other. One style that is perfect for adding a little interest to a room is chinoiserie. Chinoiserie style (i.e., art and design that reflects Chinese qualities or motifs) has been popular in Western design for centuries, and it is easy to see why! Lacquer, dragons, bold colors, pagodas, and beautiful depictions of flora and fauna – what is not to love about chinoiserie? We’ve pulled together a few fabulous pieces that have a “Chinese-esque”  feel and style.

Client Work: Master Bedroom

Just over a year ago this warm, personable and spunky woman walked into Coveted Home. She expressed how she had been trying to redecorate her and her husbands master bedroom for some time but things weren’t moving fast enough for her and she was ready to get it done. We hit it off and being a woman who means business, she hired me on the spot.

She has a lovely home and at the time was full of antiques and very traditional furniture. Having lived with this style for most of her life, she was ready for a change. We wouldn’t be getting rid of everything, but bringing in modern touches throughout the house was the goal. The master bedroom was a bit of a different story though. The scale of the room is very large and they had been living with a queen size bed and two small antique side tables on either side. We needed to up the ante in this room and I have to say I truly love how this one turned out.

We kept two of her beautiful antique dressers–one you see here in the photo and the other is on the wall opposite the bed.

New York designer Tamara Magel nails it with this Hamptons bedroom retreat. Fresh white painted brick up against that bold black focal wall with minimal accents and oversized art. With the addition of a few natural textures, this room’s appeal is black and white!

This Higashi Console by Bungalow 5 finished in black lacquer would be a gorgeous staple in any home. The perfect way to add some class to an entryway. ($1690)

Hand loomed, flat weave in durable 100% cotton, we love how this Tattersall Runner is lightweight, reversible and affordable.  2′ x 3′ ($33)

The perfect pull-up table featured in the unexpected. High gloss, white finish. 19.5″ x 16″ diameter ($575)

Little Miss Tuffet – Round Hair on Hide by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams. Fun yet versatile, these tuffets are a great way to add some texture and pattern to your home. Easy to move from room to room for additional seating when needed. ($1145)

Sunny in Spots

I can’t pinpoint where and how my recent obsession with the color yellow began. All I know is that is came on strong and has established a firm grip on my visual eye. While seeking inspiration in current design publications, I am seriously scanning each featured interior for a flashy hint of yellow. When I find it, I am elated! Yellow is cheery, unexpected, and looks phenomenal against most backdrops like stark white or exposed brick walls. Even in small, calculated measurements (which I tend to appreciate more), yellow can pack a punch that can equally enhance your mood and your living space. I wouldn’t be surprised if this drawn out winter weather had anything to do with my current obsession, but even still, I am fully embracing the impact that yellow has. Bring on the sun!!

Snow White

This Midwest Winter has been a bitter one. It has been cold. It has been dry. It has been devoid of any major snowfall. Until now. We are currently reside under a thick blanket of snow (finally) which is reminding us that it IS only February and the idea of Spring is still just a pipe dream. I am okay with this. It has been inspiring to see everything covered in white.

White can easily brighten a space, expanding walls and creating comfort. A blank canvas that can, at times, look even more divine, left blank. White can be casual, clean while acting as a springboard for interior creativity by incorporating color and playing with textures. Honestly, it just makes us happy. And a smidge excited for another winter storm.

Shades of white, a hint of metallic, and fab view from Jaclyn’s Plaza apartment.
