Fall Trends Translated

The fall season is almost officially upon us. Well, almost. If you live in the Midwest like we do, it’s fairly certain that the strict definition of a “season” can be very blurry. It’s always a gamble. So, we may be prematurely pushing cable knit sweaters and frantically searching for our Hunters, but we just can’t wait any longer. Fall, as unreliable as you are, we will always love you.

We have appropriately paired up some of our favorite fall fashion trends for this year with their home decor “doppelgänger”. All items featured are available to purchase in-store and online at Coveted Home.

Summer Beach Vibes

It is an unfortunate fact that we live in a landlocked world that is Kansas City. As much as I love my hometown, lazy days at the beach call to me especially during the summer months. Aside from the watermelon cocktails and clam bakes my daydreams tend to consist of, I can picture open air bungalows decked out in blues and whites. Relaxed, effortless spaces that spill out onto a wrap around porch that is just the same. Here are some options, that together, can help bring the summer beach vibes inland. Insert hammock + sound of waves on the shore.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams’ Alex Slipcovered Sofa in bleached white denim. Starting at $1395.

Diagonal Stripe Patch Pillow by Rebecca Atwood. $225 each.

Grid Shibori Pillow by Rebecca Atwood. $200 each.

Barcelona Table Lamp by Barbara Cosgrove. $488 each.

Loft Life // Client Update

Kansas City has some fantastic loft spaces in the downtown area and my client lives in one of them. Wide open spaces, high ceilings and windows galore with great views. But why do contractors that build loft spaces think its cool to paint every single wall a different “accent color”? This is a design pet peeve of mine..accent walls are tricky and should only be done by a design professional with really good taste. Otherwise they end up looking very cheesy/commercial and or dated. Needless to say her walls were painted an array of burnt orange, sage green, dark gray and I think there was a blue color thrown in for good measure.

We knew we would have lots of color in rugs and upholstery so the first order of business was to paint the walls white. We used Shoji White by Sherwin Williams and it looks sooo good, it was really the perfect shade for this space. My client fell in love with this piece of art from the shop and actually purchased it before we even had a chance to hang it on the wall at Coveted Home! This was the starting off point for new gray velvet upholstery on some vintage chairs, gorgeous Rebecca Atwood pillows and a neutral Dash & Albert rug that created a beautiful sitting area in her entry. IMG_1078

The benches are part of this crazy cool vintage cocktail table/ottoman. We reupholstered them with this beautiful marbelized fabric. The glass top rests on the middle piece (which we still need to have reupholstered..I’m thinking a cream/white color) and the ottomans are there for extra seating when you need to pull them out. Her mother found that amazing vintage rug at an estate sale. #score

I quickly styled this shot with some extra accessories she had laying around. There is still some more to do here but I’m loving how this project is turning out and look forward to sharing the completed space in the future!

Indigo Wild

We’ve got the blues….and in at least 50 shades. It has been a long standing trend, blue. For myself, it has overpowered my wardrobe for years and now I find that my home has come down with the case of the blues as well. From indigo to royal to navy. Moody and natural. Blue is a color that connects.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams has embraced blue for years and it tends to look good on almost all of their upholstered pieces. The space above (via House Beautiful) features the Conner Sofa in a custom fabric. From the top: Liam Sofa in Boulevard Deep Blue velvet, Gloria Occasional Chair in Denim Indigo, and the extremely popular Martin Sofa in Plymouth Dark Slate. As always, Mitchell Gold’s whole line is available through Coveted Home.

Madeline Weinrib’s textile designs have always been a shop favorite. Her color application and bold graphic patterns are sure to please. The inspiring space above features her Westley Woven Cotton Rug in indigo. It’s a beauty! From the top: Lolita Rug 6×9 Indigo – Madeline Weinrib $1075, Herringbone Indigo – Dash & Albert $33-$564, Samode Indoor/Outdoor Rug Denim – Dash & Albert $43-$648.

StrieSapphireThrowHere are few more items that give us the blues. Some we have, some we are in the midst of acquiring. Rebecca Atwood’s textiles are on the top of our wishlist right now. If I were to guess, you could see these popping up in the shop by mid-May. Fingers crossed, people. Takara Designs is a new line for the shop. Her hand dyed jewelry can bring out the best in any outfit you pair it with. Right now, we are featuring more coral and greys, but aspire to get in these fabulous hoops! And another shop favorite, the Strie´Throw in Sapphire $155 at the shop now.

Get the blues. Happy shopping, everyone!

Look! What’s New.

Okay. So the stars haven’t necessarily aligned for us to enjoy an early spring, but I would go ahead and count them as lucky with our latest additions to the shop!  We have just received a shipment from MARGINS, a California-based print studio, whose works “draw on the natural world and numerous spiritual traditions”.  We are featuring their fascinating Moon Calendars in a variety of colors, all of which are custom framed.

We have also been graced with the presence of Jules, a gorgeous polished brass and glass dining table from the Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams spring collection. She is part of a vast collection of similar occasional pieces, all of which are available to order through Coveted Home. Lastly, we are restocked on our ever-popular Dash & Albert rugs in both woven cotton and indoor/outdoor polypropylene. We have a difficult time keeping these guys in, so stop by the shop today to snag a coveted 2×3 that have arrived in springlike shades of coral and blue.
